The Adventures of Sar the Chicken

After four days of continual chicken play questing, I finally did it!  I have earned my new title Crosser of Roads, and have created my cosmetic chicken outfit for Sarharien, complete with the chicken cape.  Life can finally return to some level of "normal" now... though I suddenly have a craving for chicken mcnuggets... >.<

So after completing all the Flying the Coop quests, the only thing remaining was the epic, 8-hour time limited Free Range quest, in which you have the opportunity to earn about 8,500 destiny points through the completion of deeds from the Shire, to Breeland, Northdowns, Angmar, Lone Lands and Trollshaws.

Did you know, that while you're a chicken, you have the uncanny ability to read people's minds?  Inconceivable!  Well, here is my adventure...

Here I am at the beginning... George my buddy, and Rovabella who seemed to be about to chicken herself as well.

First there was a visit off to see Old Sally... just some wolves and bears and boars to avoid, but she was sleeping restfully upon the hill.

Then I had to see Mr. Fox who was talking about taking over some farmer's hen operations.  When I caught sight of him licking his lips, I knew it was time to move on.

Bessy the Cow was next.  She loves to see the world... literally.  Constantly climbing all over the rooftops and fences and buildings of her home town in the hopes of catching an epic view of Mordor.  I didn't have the heart to tell her she won't see it from here...

Ah, here she is!  Rovabella was chicken questing in the Shire as I passed on my way through to the Old Forest.

After heading through the Old Forest (not an easy task to say the least!), I ended up in the Barrow Downs.  Had to make my way to the Great Barrow to find some rock.  Bumped into Duiran who kept humming: "Nuggets, tasty nuggets..." to himself.  I figured it was time to go.

Happy chicken day!  It is the infamous CHICKENDORF!  Oh how awesome!  I could not believe my luck... I wonder what he's thinking about?  "Cluck, cluck, cluckety-cluck."  Oh dear.  The poor boy is really a chicken in dwarfplay!  Well I'm not gonna kiss him to find out... not today at least...

Found the Cat Lady's house.  Put a bunch of cats in a room and they quickly get out of control: "Chicken... is that a kind of fish?  I love fish!  Me too!  Did someone say FISH?  Where's the fish... are you hiding fish on me?  Who is this stranger?  Is she fish?  She has legs, she can't be fish.  Maybe she's a new fish - a chicken fish..."  Yep.  Time to go.

Visited with Horse up at the Bree stables.  I gotta say, the poor mare really had a sad name.  Clearly her first owner was a child.  They're so amazed with themselves when they name things: "Mommy!  Look at this teddybear that grandma gave me!  Guess what I named it?  TEDDYBEAR!  Isn't that neat?"  >.<

Heading through Nen Harn and avoiding the snapping turtles I was sent to meet Grey Squirrel.  I swear he's part of a mob group that I've bumped into all over Middle Earth.  They're always chattering about stealing "their nuts" and killing off various animal races within Middle Earth.  This poor guy was foaming at the mouth, and mumbling on: "...and then we will pelt them with our nuts, and steal their nuts, and make the wolves rue the day they ever bit off the tail of Henry the Nineteen-thousandth-and-Eighty-Threed..."  Yep.  Nuts.  They gather them, but they don't need to.  Plenty of nuts to go around that species already.

A short rest moment in eastern North Downs outside of Esteldin before heading north into Angmar.  I would show you pictures from that part of my journey, but then I'd have to kill you.  The path is an ancient chicken secret.  I promised my dad I wouldn't share.  Sorry.

Here are two chickens running away from Fornost together.  Me, and Darkshadow.  At least I had the nuggets enough to go all the way into Fornost to find my stone, but he just saw the entrance and ran.  LOL.  That's okay, he did kill a few mobs for me on the way back down to Tresslebridge.

At Tresslebridge I inspected a strange chicken nest, and suddenly felt woozy.  A few moments later I awoke in Ered Luin.  That was cool!  Weird, but cool.

Found and spoke with the Lynx Mother who was consoling herself over the loss of her cub.  Seems that the dwarf beside her was making a tidy profit off of wandering adventurers.  Unbeknownst to Mommy, he kept taking her cub out into the forest and leaving her there for someone to find.

Bumped into Neomoth at the South Bree gates.  He was dancing around me, but his thoughts were not friendly: "I'm having nuggets, nuggets, juicy nuggets for dinner tonight!"  Yeah, that's what you think!  "Hiiiiiya!" <CHOP>

"That's right buddy.  Nobody messes with Sar the Chicken.  Nobody.  Just stay on the ground and you won't get hurt.  I'm going to leave now, and you are NOT going to follow me."

Finally wandered my way to the top of Weathertop.  Beautiful view.  Found my little grey round stone too (at left).

Passing through Ost Guruth I bumped into Danitza who was lost in thought at the entrance: "...oh how I love chicken!  Legs and breasts and wings, oh my!  I wonder if I'll love it fried?"  Yep, you guessed it, time to go.  Though I swear I would make a killing as a cook in Middle Earth if I could some how package and sell chicken mcnuggets.  Yes, I know it would be wrong - genocide - but I'm just saying.  Well, Sarharien could do it...

Standing on the stone at the Last Bridge.

The beautiful town of Oatbarton.  Really quite a nice place.  I just have to head up the hill now to Annuminias, and swim a bit on Lake Everswim, and I'll be done!

WHAT THE CLUCK?  OMG!  AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUGH!  That's Org-speak for "holy-crap-I've-been-at-this-for-four-hours-and-am-five-items-away-from-finishing-and-I-die-at-the-hands-of-a-stupid-cloaking-SCOUT?"  Time to go whack some things in a skirmish to cool off.

A day later, I return to Sandson's Farm.  A bit cooled off, and all chicken-attitude and ready to try it again.  Even bumped into Nerglor from Shadow - we were supposed to have a chicken event with our kins tonight.  Seems communication channels got crossed, and the event got postponed without anyone telling us.  LOL.

Here I am during Free Range round #2.  In Bree.  Rivendella, Fastdredfor, Lybael, and Erharl all wandering about.

Distracted a couple new players in northern Bree.  Esbarien and Iswarth stopped to check me out: "Chicken?  Is this chicken following us?  I'm hungry... wanna grab some chicken stew in the Prancing Pony?  Sure.  Let's go!"  Aww... cute, a date - but you're EATING MY KIND!  I'm outta here.

Epic shot.  A dead spider on my road (thank you), and a dwarf (extra yummy), and then the name.  Redlead, which kinda rhymes with redhead, of which I am one, and partial to.  :D "Thank you!"

RAINBOW!  I have only seen the rainbow in the Shire a couple times in-game, and never remember to take a photo of it.  But today, after visiting Bag End, I got this awesome view of one across the sky.  :D

My hero, ILLUNDIR - a kinmate of mine came and battled the roads clear from Oatbarton to Annuminias for me.  Was so kind of him to give up a half-hour of his evening to help me out.  XOXO

After Annuminias, I had to swim across to see the stone of the Blue Lady.  "I smell chicken. I haven't had poultry in SO long.  Oh, thank goodness my forest friends can't hear what I'm thinking.  But I love nuggets, tasty nuggets..."  Yep, she's nuts, and I'm staying way over here where she can't see me.

On the eastern shores of Everswim, my kinmate Taea the Brave met up with me.  I don't know what it is about Elves and their cosmetics, but I didn't have the heart to tell her she's supposed to put the thong UNDER the pants.  <sigh>  Two-footed wonders they are.  :)

WOW.  Okay, maybe I was wrong - after seeing Taea at work thrashing and bashing and killing every living creature in sight, maybe that underwear-on-the-outside things is working for her!  Go girl!

On my way back through the Shire later in the evening, I bumped into... TAEA!!!  Come here you little cuty-pie!  We ran up to Oatbarton together before she headed off to Rivendell.  I told her I would meet up with her later to clear mobs when she hit the Bruinen Gorge.  Died there myself a couple days ago doing that quest she was on - so happy to return a favour!  "Luvs ya babe!  See you soon!"

Me and the Rivendell rock.  Only ONE more task to go!  The final stone of Helegrod!

Here I am being escorted by my hero-of-the-moment, Orglock.  He was hopping and running around chasing Rudolf the reindeer for a while.  I thought they were playing, until he KILLED HIM.  Santa is SO not visiting your house this year, Org.  ;)

Orglock battles an epic worm of the Misty Mountains.  I just watch... but then made the mistake of listening to his mind: "I love chicken, yes I do, the nuggets and wings are tasty too.  I will make pie, I will make cake, I will put Sar in the oven to bake!"  Dude?!?!  So not cool.

I keep my distance while Orglock clears more mobs on the Bitter Stairs.  He continued to dream and drool about chicken-based food products, so I snuck past him.

TADA!  Found my last stone, and completed Free Range!  Awesome!  Happy Dance - now Sarharien is known as "Crosser of Roads".  YAYAYAYAYAYAYA!

Back as Sarharien, I port to Rivendell and run towards the Bruinen Gorges, killing every mob I can find along the path.  Finally I meet up with Orglock escorting Taea the Chicken.  Yay!

Orglock and I clear the path of safety for our kinmate Taea the Chicken, and she makes it to the Gates of Imladris just south of Rivendell.  From here, she safely completes her Flying the Coop quest.  A happy kin evening all around.  "And no, Org, we're not going back to the pub for chicken and beer.  Seriously?"

Thank you to everyone who was a part of my little chicken play sessions!

Love and hugs to all my fellow Dwarrowdelfians,

Sarharien -- Bowchick of Red and Collector of Shoes
Kierraen -- Minstrel of Delightful Octaves of Pain
Niphredila -- Warden of Gleeful Green Giggles
